Lady Gaga and Frank Lebon are eagerly anticipating the release of Lady Gaga’s highly anticipated new album Mayhem. In preparation for this event, Mother Monster herself has provided fans with a sneak peek into what to expect from her upcoming project.
In an exclusive interview with InStyle, Lady Gaga shared two song previews from Mayhem: “The Beast” and “Perfect Celebrity.” During the discussion, she revealed that these tracks offer insights into the themes explored in her new album. Regarding “The Beast,” Gaga explained how the lyrics depict a conversation between herself and a werewolf symbolizing her transformational journey: “‘You can’t hide who you are,’ she sings, with ‘your heart’s racing’ and ‘we both know why.’ This gothic dream isn’t just about me in a relationship with this person on the brink of transforming into something else; what if I were to sing it to myself, where the beast is Lady Gaga?”
When discussing “Perfect Celebrity,” she delved deeper into themes of duality that run through both her music and videos for songs like “Disease” and “Abracadabra.” “I’ve become a notorious being,” she sings in this track. “Find my clone, she’s asleep on the ceiling.” This lyric represents the idea that each person has their true self and another version of themselves projected to the world. Mayhem explores multiple versions of oneself and how they can conflict with one another.
The inspiration for Lady Gaga’s new album is rooted in ballroom culture, a significant influence throughout her career. “I grew up in New York City,” she shared, “and I was also introduced to Paris Is Burning as a young student. The grace, freedom of expression and joy within the ballroom have always been sources of inspiration for me.” Gaga’s connection to this community is something that fills her with pride.
The upcoming Spotify Little Monster Press Conference on March 6 will provide fans with another opportunity to engage directly with Lady Gaga. This event offers a platform for music enthusiasts to ask their own questions about the new album, offering an intimate look at Mother Monster’s creative process and inspiration behind Mayhem.
The news comes after Lady Gaga unveiled more details about her upcoming release, including singles such as “Disease,” “Abracadabra,” “Die With a Smile,” and now two additional tracks that fans have been eagerly awaiting. The album is set to be released on March 7 via Interscope.
